About patty

My name is Patricia Harrison Cook, mostly known as Patty Cook. I’m married to Mike Cook. He’s a hardworking man who worked in the tobacco fields as a teenager and as a young man he installed insulation in houses and businesses. He currently sells insulation and is the 2021 president of the Catawba Valley Home Builder’s Association. He has a son, Cliff Cook, who works with him at Members Insulation. I have a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Kylie Goans. Eric is a chiropractor at Conover Chiropractic and Kylie is a hair stylist at Sheer Bliss in Claremont. I have two grandsons, Zach Goans and Jacob Cook and three brothers, Joe Harrison (Jackie), Ricky Hill (Dawn) and Mike Hill. My mom, Becky Vechik, lives in Conover and my mother-in-law, Marie Cook, lives with us in Conover. Mike and I are members of Oxford Baptist Church. We have served as youth leaders and Sunday School teachers in other churches. I have served as a Cub Scout Volunteer and on Newton-Conover High School’s PTO Board as secretary, vice-president and president. We enjoy working with the youth in our community.

In 1993 I received a summons for jury duty. I reported for duty and was chosen as an alternate juror. This began my courthouse journey. As I sat in the juror’s seat, I thought “This would be a great place to work.” Shortly after jury duty I filled out an application for the Clerk of Superior’s Court office and was hired by Barbara Mackie Towery on 9/15/1994. I worked there until 4/29/2016, almost 22 years. I loved working at the Clerk of Superior’s Court office and I hope I get the opportunity to do it again.

My family moved to Catawba County from Gaston County when I was in pre-school. Catawba County is the only place I remember living, it is home and I love it. I attended Claremont Elementary School, Catawba Middle School, Bunker Hill High School my freshman year, Maiden High School part of my sophomore year and finished my high school education at St. Stephens High School. After I graduated from St. Stephens High School in 1982, I attended Catawba Valley Community College in 1982 and graduated from there in 1984 with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. In November 1984 I went to work at Hanes Industries in Conover, NC in Data Entry Department and the Product Management Department. In September 1994 I left Hanes Industries to begin my career at the Catawba County Clerk of Superior Court’s office. I began in the Estates/Special Proceeding Department and then transferred to the Juvenile Department. In 2013 I became an Assistant Clerk in the  Estate & Juvenile Department. On May 5, 2016 I began my job at Grant Richman PLLC in Newton, NC as a legal assistant. It has been an adventure learning the other side of the legal community. I enjoy working with Mr. Grant and his clients. I continue to work there today.

My family and friends ask me if I miss working at the Clerk of Superior Court’s office and I tell them I do. I really miss serving the public, the circle of friends I had with the other clerks and the brotherhood/sisterhood I had with the attorneys, law enforcement officers, judges and other support court staff.

I have the experience, knowledge and leadership skills to be your Catawba County Clerk of Superior Court. I know what it’s like to be a deputy/assistant clerk of court and what’s needed to serve the public and the legal community. I know how important it is to have friendly knowledgeable people working in the Court system. I treat all people with fairness and compassion. Please vote for me to serve as your Clerk of Superior Court.
